Riverwalk Jazz On-Air

The Jim Cullum Jazz Band Presents…

2/7 Crescent City Stomp: A Mardi Gras Celebration

They call New Orleans ‘the Cradle of Jazz.’ And as the saying goes, “The hand that rocks the cradle, rocks the nation.” The Jim Cullum Jazz Band presents traditional hot jazz honoring the music and musicians of New Orleans.

2/14 Hearts Afire: A Riverwalk Jazz Valentine

Guests John Pizzarelli, Becky Kilgore, Vernel Bagneris and Nina Ferro shine on love songs from sweet to snappy.  It’s our special Valentine’s card to you!

2/21 When I Grow too Old to Dream: The Memories of Danny Barker

Jim and the Band serve up more New Orleans hot jazz classics along with the Smithsonian’s archival recordings of Crescent City legend Danny Barker sharing childhood memories and his life in music.

Jumpin_Topsy2/28 Sophisticated Ladies and Red Hot Mommas

Heartbreakers, man-takers, vamps, tramps and the girl next door have all shown up in song. New Orleans’ Topsy Chapman joins Jim Cullum to separate the ‘sophisticated ladies’ from the ‘red-hot mommas.’

Thinking Of Danny Barker

Danny Barker

Danny Barker

November 16, 2010 by Doug Ramsey

This is neither the anniversary of Danny Barker’s birth (January 13, 1909) nor of his death (March 13, 1994). I need no special occasion to write about Danny. He was born in New Orleans, where I served with him on the board of the original New Orleans JazzFest and was lucky enough to become his friend. No one has ever had a warmer, more genuine companion.
